We are a community-run preschool and could not operate without the involvement of our families and the generous local community. Family and community engagement is paramount to the on-going success of the preschool and enables us to build better relationships with the children. And there are so many great ways you can get involved!

Family involvement

At Drummoyne Preschool we value our partnerships with families and believe they are an essential part of holistic development for children. We actively involve our families with volunteering and social opportunities throughout the year – a great way to build relationships both in and outside of the preschool.
At the beginning of each year, we ask that you attend the AGM to help appoint a volunteer parent committee who are the Approved Providers and ensure the smooth running of the preschool. We also require parents to participate in a morning roster once per term as well as help with working bees twice a year. This is a wonderful way to watch your children engage with teachers and peers, as well as ensure the Preschool facilities are well maintained and cared for.

Community involvement

We are lucky to have such an active local community who support our Preschool. Our edible Community Garden is tended to by local volunteers, enabling our children to learn about sustainably growing, caring and harvesting fruits and vegetables. We also encourage our families to help maintain our gardens throughout the course of the year.

Once a fortnight, our children are invited to attend an intergenerational program at the local Community Centre called ‘Wonder & Wisdom’. This program brings preschoolers and seniors together from our community to play games and activities.

Excursions

Multiple times a year we arrange excursions and incursions for our children. This includes visits to the local shops, the park and other community organisations. We also have artists who visit the preschool including drama workshops, music and other visitors who support children’s interest in projects.

Social events and fundraising

These are organised by the social committee in consultation with the director and management committee and supported with generous donations from local businesses. These events include family meetups, disco nights, movie nights and art sales.
